Aristotie once said "What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies." In Dan Coffman's case he has more than two bodies as friends. Since his tree accident where Dan was near death and in a coma, he has been through many surgeries, rehab, depression and now has a positive outlook that one day he will walk again. Dan is now in his home and able to leave and drive to his PT appointments three times a week thanks to so many "Friends" that have pitched in over the year to enable him to have more mobility. On a beautiful Fall day March 13th. many "Friends" gathered to build a 34 ft. handicap ramp with the material donated by the Purple Heart Homes. This was a blessing to him and his wife Brenda, but very heart warming to all of us seeing Dan use it. Dan purchased a special wheelchair van to enable him to travel to his PT appointments. But, getting in and out of his bed required more than one person to transfer to his wheelchair and back to his bed. The members of the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association Chapter 27-11 made up a schedule to get volunteers to help over the past few months to make his PT appointments. The CVMA Chapter decided go out on a leap of faith to purchase a Molift Duo lift that cost $5,000. with all the necessary equipment to go with it, but it drain down their bank account. The members installed it and made sure Brenda and Dan could operate it safely by themselves. At the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council last week, President Dave "Snake" Work of CVMA got up and spoke about the $5K purchase and ask other veterans organizations if they could pitch in and help offset the expense. Once again Dan's many "Friends" stepped up to help.
